Van Nuys, CA
The neighborhood of Van Nuys is positioned in the heart of the San Fernando Valley, which is part of the Southern California-based city of Los Angeles. The beginning of Van Nuys can be traced back to February 22, 1911, when an advertisement in the Los Angeles Times caught the fancy of many. The ad mentioned a train ride (for free) to the “Van Nuys townsite” for a complimentary barbecue to commemorate Washington’s Birthday, along with a patriotic speech about the beginning of a town and an auction of lots in an undeveloped region of the San Fernando Valley. People purchased lots in that auction and constructed their homes in the area. The first settlers of the valley were the Van Nuys merchants. The Valley General Store that still exists at Van Nuys and Sylvan was the region’s first real building, which also played home to the first bank in the San Fernando Valley. The town gets its name from Isaac Van Nuys, who previously owned and ranched 50% of the land in the open space south of what today is called Roscoe Boulevard. It was Isaac Van Nuys’ great ranch that later became the “Van Nuys townsite” and then was simply known as Van Nuys.
During your stay in Van Nuys, CA, you can visit several places of interest in and around the town, such as Van Nuys City Hall, Country General Store, Japanese Garden, Getty Center, Universal Studios, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Griffith Park, Sky Zone Trampoline Park, Disneyland, TCL Chinese Theater, and Walk of Fame. You may also go shopping at the high-end stores lining the nearby Rodeo Drive, take a bike rental at Venice Beach and cruise down the beach, or have family fun at the Santa Monica Pier. Setting a date with the nearby Sunset Boulevard to get a close glimpse of its happening nightlife is another activity worth doing during your stay in Van Nuys.
